Samaritan Project

Samaritan Project, Inc. is a non-profit organization that offers programs and services at no cost to its participants. Its mission is to provide quality, educational assistance to all individuals enrolled in its programs.  We will further engage in activities that will strengthen the family unit, while promoting self-confidence and self-esteem within the individual.  Samaritan relies exclusively on funding from foundations, philanthropists, and other organizations in order to reach its goal of providing quality services to individuals within the Milwaukee community.

The following information provides a snapshot of programs and services that will be offered by the Samaritan Project.

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION/GENERAL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA (ABE/GED)

This program’s basic skills teaching approach is highly individualized and the student’s knowledge is continually assessed in a competency based model.  Each lesson is planned by the coordinator, tutor, and student to maximize his/her emerging knowledge or skill in a particular subject.  This method helps students become their own teacher as well as gain insight into encouraging their own children’s learning abilities at an appropriate level.

In addition, the five (5) subject areas needed to complete the GED examination will be covered, and the teaching approach is self-paced.  This allows the students to work at their own pace using technology-based learning such as Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) and individualized assistance.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

This program provides seminars and workshops that address current issues faced by today’s youth. The Samaritan Project is sensitive to the rapidly changing society which requires the focus on learning to shift from the simple acquisition of facts to the synthesis and application of concepts.  Thus, our program is designed to equip youth with knowledge and tools that transcend time and enhance self-sufficiency.  The Youth Development program will encompass the areas of education and personal development.  The approach will be holistic in that it will aim to enhance the physical, emotional, and spiritual attributes of its program participants.

CHILDREN’S TUTORIAL PROGRAM

The primary goal of Children’s Tutorial is to teach children critical thinking and computer literacy skills.  We have adopted this program goal because it is consistent with the Milwaukee Public Schools’ K-12 Teaching and Learning Initiative.  Our objective in advancing this goal is to be supportive of the direction of the professional education community in providing computer-based education.  For information regarding this program, please call (414) 586-4250

QUALITY OF LIFE PROGRAMS

The Quality of Life Program is designed to meet the physical and emotional needs of single parents, low-income families, and persons who have had little to no previous work experience.  The focus of training will include, but limited to, the areas of home economics, money management, job preparedness, and parenting methodologies.
